How To Keep Aluminium Doors Maintained

How To Keep Aluminium Doors Maintained

When you have aluminium doors in your home, it is important that you keep
them well maintained, otherwise you may find them eventually experiencing
annoying problems, such as sticking and jamming. Fortunately, door
maintenance is a fairly simple process that can be completed in a few hours
on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

Step 1: Take your vacuum cleaner or a stiff bristled brush and use it to
clean out the dirt and other grit from the channels of the door. You should
also spray the channels with a silicone lubricant to prevent rust and other
types of corrosion from forming.

Step 2: Check out the spring locks of your aluminium door. If they appear
to be a little stiff, take a moisture-displacing penetrating lubricant (like
WD-40) and give the locks a good spray.

Step 3: If the aluminium frames have attracted mildew growth, mix together
a solution of a third a cup of powdered laundry detergent, two-thirds a cup
of trisodium phosphate, about a litre of bleach and about 3 litres of water.
Take a soft brush and apply this solution to the mildew affected areas,
rinsing well.

Step 4: To clean the rest of the aluminium frame, mix together a solution
of a mild detergent and water. Take a soft brush and use it to apply the
solutions to the aluminium, rinsing well with clean water.

Providing that you follow the above steps once every few months, you can go
a long way towards ensuring that your aluminium doors are maintained and
remain in good working order for many years to come. To protect your skin
from the harmful chemicals in some of the cleaners used to clean your doors,
it is recommended to wear safety goggles and gloves.
